CNC Operator
Job Title: CNC Operator
Location: Aberdeen Studio, 2611 Gallatin Pike, Nashville, TN 37216
Employment Type: Full-Time
Key Responsibilities
CNC Operation & Programming
Set up, operate, and maintain CNC routers and machining centers for cabinet and furniture components
Write, edit, and optimize CNC programs (G-code or CAM software) to maximize accuracy and material yield
Perform tool changes, speeds/feeds adjustments, and routine machine calibration
Troubleshoot machine faults, tooling issues, and cut quality problems — and resolve them without waiting to be asked
Maintain detailed records of programs, tooling, and machine maintenance logs
Furniture Fabrication & Hand Craftsmanship
Build high-end furniture and cabinet components using a combination of CNC output and traditional hand-tool and bench skills
Fit, sand, and prepare surfaces to an exacting standard prior to finishing
Assemble casework and furniture with careful attention to square, level, and gap consistency
Work from shop drawings, cut lists, and 3D models with confidence and minimal supervision
Quality & Attention to Detail
Inspect every component before it moves to the next stage — dimension, grain match, surface quality, and hardware fit
Identify and correct issues at the source; understand that a cosmetic flaw caught in the shop costs minutes, and one caught at installation costs hours
Maintain awareness of grain direction, figure, and color consistency when selecting and laying out sheet goods and solid lumber
Hold tolerances to within 1/64” on critical dimensions as required by design specifications
Contribute to a zero-defect culture where quality is everyone’s responsibility, not just the last person to touch a piece
Shop Support
Keep the CNC area, workbenches, and tooling organized and in good working order at all times
Assist with material handling, nesting layouts, and inventory of sheet goods and solid lumber
Collaborate with other team members to meet production schedules without sacrificing quality
Follow all shop safety protocols and contribute to a clean, safe working environment
Qualifications
Required
3+ years of hands-on CNC operation experience in a cabinet, furniture, or millwork production environment
Demonstrated experience fabricating high-end custom furniture or cabinetry — please be prepared to show examples of your work
Proficiency with CAM software (Mozaik, VCarve, Cabinet Vision, Alphacam, or similar)
Strong command of woodworking machinery: table saw, jointer, planer, router, band saw, and finishing sanders
Ability to read and work from detailed shop drawings and cut lists with accuracy
Exceptional attention to detail — you notice things others miss and you care about fixing them
A craftsmanship mindset: you measure twice, you take your time when it matters, and you don’t ship work you’re not proud of
Preferred
Proficiency with 3D/2D Design Software such as AutoCAD, Fusion or Sketch-up
Experience with solid wood furniture construction, including traditional joinery methods
Familiarity with veneer work, inlay, or other decorative techniques common in high-end furniture
Experience with finishing prep: sanding schedules, grain raising, and hand-applied stain or finish preparation
Knowledge of wood species selection and characteristics — domestic and exotic hardwoods
Portfolio or photos of past custom work available for review
What We Offer
Competitive pay commensurate with skill and experience
A small, skilled team where your craftsmanship is seen and valued — not lost in a production line
Work that is genuinely interesting: no two projects are the same
Health insurance contribution
Paid time off and holidays
Opportunity to grow into senior or lead roles as the shop expands
